Sagena has made a major investment in 3T magnetic resonance imaging. We talk with Aleš Kubíček, the company’s managing director, about the motivations for this investment and how it will influence access to advanced diagnostics in the region.

You recently announced the launch of the Siemens 3T Magnetom Vida at the SAGENA diagnostic centre in Frýdek-Místek. Could you explain what this investment signifies for your facility?
The installation of the device marks a key technological and strategic shift for us. This new technology enables highly detailed examinations in areas ranging from neurology to musculoskeletal studies, including whole-body scans for preventive diagnostics. The examinations are faster thanks to powerful gradients and advanced software that incorporates artificial intelligence. Operationally, we ensure appointments within three working days and offer express examinations within 24 hours for self-paying patients. It addresses the long wait times in the public system. The 3T device allows us to provide services previously limited to specific regions, enhancing our leadership in outpatient diagnostics in Moravia. We also aim to make these examinations available to insured patients, not just self-payers. Since 1 November 2025, the VZP insurance company has enabled its insured individuals to undergo 3T MRI examinations for early detection of prostate cancer, CNS and brain diseases, and paediatric examinations.

Your facility also specialises in prostate screening. How do you view the importance of multiparametric prostate MRI in terms of accreditation, and how is it reflected in your magnetic resonance imaging portfolio?
The SAGENA MRI facility is an accredited radiology centre included in the early detection programme for prostate cancer. We conduct multiparametric prostate imaging according to standards, using endorectal coils and based on a certified urologist’s referral. This results in more accurate diagnoses and better guidance for subsequent interventions. This specialisation is reflected in our portfolio, as MRI is used not only for general imaging but also as part of a targeted preventive oncology programme. Clinically, this enhances our reputation among doctors, especially urologists, and highlights our responsibility for staff qualifications and processes. From a development standpoint, it offers a competitive advantage, as clients
recognise that this is not just a routine exam but a specialised solution.

What are your plans in the field of MRI? Are you thinking, for example, about expanding capacity, integrating new diagnostic modules, partnering with research organisations, or incorporating artificial intelligence?
We view magnetic resonance imaging as a crucial area for advancing the region. In the coming months, we aim to expand our diagnostic modules, focusing on functional musculoskeletal sequences, cardiovascular exams, and whole-body screenings. We currently use software to speed up evaluations and enhance patient comfort, and we plan to develop these technologies even further. Our plans also involve participating in research projects and collaborating with universities and specialised centres. We intend to keep appointment wait times under three days in the region, a key advantage over typical wait times in the public system. Additionally, we are working towards having 3T device examinations covered by public insurance in the long term, as we do not want such accurate diagnostics to be limited to self-paying patients.
