The Summer Festival Season Is Slowly Coming to an End. How Do You Evaluate It? Can You Tell Us Your Plans for 2023?

The nineteenth year of the St Wenceslas Music Festival was once again a great celebration of sacred and early music in our region. The musical marathon of 33 concerts, which took place in various churches throughout the Moravian-Silesian Region, started on Friday, 2 September in Ostrava. Even then, at that moment, I was very happy to say that this year’s interest in our festival concerts was extraordinary. Many concerts were already largely sold out in advance during the pre-sale, which gave energy and purpose to the whole festival team.

In 2023, the St Wenceslas Music Festival will celebrate its 20th anniversary. And I can already reveal that although there will be a reduction in the number of festival concerts, we have preliminarily arranged for top artists and prepared non-traditional projects. For example, I can mention a new project by the Prague Chamber Ballet or the “birthday” concert for the jubilee of the outstanding choirmaster and composer Petr Fiala in the form of a final concert, in which we will perform, alongside his Stabat Mater, Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass.
