Miroslav Kroupa

You are a manager and a lover of fine art. You founded your gallery in your hometown of Litomyšl. Can you tell us more about its activities?
The Kroupa Gallery was founded in 2004 in Litomyšl, and since 2007, it has been located in the centre of the town on Smetana Square. In 2017, the gallery expanded its activities to Prague, where it held an exhibition of Karel Těšínský in the hall of the Prague Mánes. In the autumn of 2019, it opened its exhibition space in Prague on Národní třída, in the early Baroque monastery complex of the Order of St Ursula. The gallery deals primarily in art objects, primarily paintings, from the 19th century to the present. It organises author and thematic sales exhibitions both in Prague and Litomyšl. Every year, it participates in the Smetana Art Litomyšl project. It also focuses on finding exceptionally talented and interesting authors among young and contemporary artists.

Your participation in the Czech exposition at EXPO 2020 in Dubai completes the innovative image of the Czech Republic’s cultural potential. What are you exhibiting here, and with what aim?
At EXPO 2020 in Dubai, Kroupa Gallery is presenting an exhibition of six large-scale canvases by contemporary artist Adéla Oliva, entitled Butterfly Effect. The artist describes this exhibit as “A mighty stream of cosmic forces pours into the earth’s basic components, creating a gushing spring, a wave of life. It is captured just before its next transformation. In a small moment of eternity, chaos is transformed into order, and even the slightest movement has its causal impact. The scene points to the necessity of the sustainability of the fragile balance of the world and the interconnectedness of the basic elements with man. It is consistent with the idea of the Czech pavilion and its focus on the renewability of natural resources.” Galerie Kroupa aims to present Czech art to the world because it is high quality and belongs on the international market.

Thank you for the interview.
