PhDr Zuzana Strnadová is the Director of the Museum of the City of Prague, which is a cultural institution preserving a rich collection. The museum manages eight buildings of diff erent character, which house both permanent exhibitions and temporary exhibitions. A new efficient online e-ticket system better connects objects and activities in the visitor’s interest.
Your museum manages a rich collection and objects that represent Prague’s history. How do you present this history to the current generation, which is infl uenced by modern communication technologies?
We show the past and present of Prague through permanent exhibitions, shortterm exhibitions and a wide range of accompanying programmes, many of which are aimed at the young generation. Of course, we also use modern technologies. An example of this is our multimedia exhibition Prague of Charles IV — The Medieval Town in the House at the Golden Ring.
The extent of your cultural institution in the city encompasses many objects. How do you manage to connect and simplify the visitor experience with a modern ticketing system?
During the repeated closure of the museums to the public in the many previous months due to coronavirus measures, we replaced the ticketing system used until then with a new e-ticketing system. It includes both counter sales and mainly online ticket sales for all buildings and our accompanying events, including the sale of additional goods, in both the Czech and English versions.
Villa Müller
Attending to visitors hungry for culture is essential to their satisfaction. If they have already entered your premises, what interesting things can they see?
In the House at the Golden Ring, visitors will get acquainted with medieval Prague. Until September next year, they can experience The City as a Phantom — Prague Inspirations by Jaroslav Foglar. In the Podskalí Customs House in Výtoň, they will get a glimpse into the striking, vanished Prague district of Podskalí, the history of rafting and steam navigation on the Vltava River. The Ctěnice Chateau complex off ers many museum exhibitions and displays aimed at families with children. The permanent exhibition Crafts in Guilds presents a unique museum collection of Prague guild objects. Also
popular is the permanent exhibition of the Negrelli Viaduct and Těšnov Railway Station, including the railway track and
essential trains. The Centre for Monuments of Modern Architecture provides quality guided tours of the Müller Villa, dolf Loos’s beautiful house, and the Rothmayer Villa, architect Otto Rothmayer’s own home. In the Norbert Gallery, visitors can get to know the work of these two architects better through exhibitions, lectures and guided tours. Starting in 2023, visitors can look forward to a new permanent exhibition of archaeology, Langweil’s model of Prague, as well as exhibitions and accompanying events in the main building in Florence, which is currently undergoing a major interior renovation. We will begin with a large-scale interactive exhibition of Langweil’s unfolded model of Prague. This unique model can be seen in this form once every few decades.
