The digital and green transition is a great opportunity, but it also comes with high societal costs. At the end of this journey, the competitiveness of European companies should not be compromised but improved. We do not fundamentally dispute the need to adapt to climate change, but we take a realistic view. The Fit for 55 package must provide stability and allow the Member States a cost-eff ective route to achieving their climate targets without contributing to energy price shocks or threatening the stability of their supply. The Chamber of Commerce’s continued key priority is the internal market, which our businesses see as a signifi cant benefit of integration. We must work to ensure that barriers to doing business and unnecessary paperwork disappear from the internal market and that companies always have the tools to help them meet their legal obligations.
